It is with great enthusiasm and an absolute pleasure to be the Co-Principal of Monte Vista. I look forward to serving the community, students, and staff through a collaborative partnership that aims at achieving academic excellence for all students.
I have been an educator for 23 years, possessing my Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Education from the University of Southern California and a Master of Science in Applied Educational Administration from National University. I was a classroom teacher for twelve years, a Teacher on Special Assignment specializing in English Language Development, and a prior principal for four years. I have taught elementary, middle, and high school students. Most recently, I have been an administrator for the Pleasant Valley School District for seven years.
I am passionate about promoting an environment that maximizes student learning, addresses students' social-emotional well-being, encourages leadership, and fosters innovative thinking. I am a lifelong learner who strives for continuous professional growth with many years of experience in curriculum and instruction, positive behavior systems, and meeting the needs of English Language Learners and special education students.
I was born and raised in Southern California but also spent some years living in Northern California. I am married with three wonderful children: Daniel (27) an intelligent and energetic chemist working for UC Davis, Tatiana (24) a determined and hard-working student at Cal State University Northridge, also the mother to my two beautiful grandchildren, and Isaiah (18) a witty and confident college student at Pierce Community College. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, and reading a good book.
I believe in an open-door policy and welcome your questions, concerns, or feedback. Please do not hesitate to contact me at 805-383-5335 or by email at mmagana@pleasantvalleysd.org.

Hello Toro Families,
I am thrilled to be Co-Principal at Monte Vista Middle School, where I started my career 19 years ago. As a product of PVSD, born and raised in Camarillo, and I have come full circle of being a student, teacher, leader, and parent in our district community. I look forward to another productive year with our MVMS team and to working with all the students and families to make MV a successful community that fosters student success. For those who don't know, here is a little about me:
I attended San Diego State University where I obtained my B.A. in Liberal Studies. I went to CSUCI for my teaching credential so that I could student teach in the district I grew up in, to get my foot in the door of PVSD, a dream of mine since I was in second grade. After completing my credential program, I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade ELA and history at Monte Vista over the course of 14 years. During that time, I also worked as a Teacher on Special Assignment as the GATE Coordinator for PVSD. I then attended California Lutheran University for my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and my administrative credential. I was fortunate to secure the assistant principal position at Las Colinas Middle School, where I was able to continue to serve students and staff in PVSD. In 2022, I continued my leadership journey by accepting the position of Co-Principal at Monte Vista. I am excited to work alongside our dedicated staff, students, and families as we strive to not only maintain, but to increase student engagement and success.
I, along with my husband Todd, have two wonderful sons, and a daughter on the way. Ethan (9) is my self-proclaimed future mechanical engineer. Evan (6) is my high energy, creative child who would web-sling himself to school if he could channel his inner Spiderman. These two unique best friends keep me entertained, inspired, and busy. I am proud that they attend TIerra Linda in PVSD, and I know their future is bright due to the educators (teachers and school staff) that work so hard for all of our students. My family and I enjoy the many activities hosted by our city and county, and can be found attending concerts, story time at the library, participating in local 5ks, attending student events, camping, and much more.
I truly value partnering with my staff, students, families, and the community. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me for the opportunity to work together to support your student.
Let’s have a wonderful year together. Go Toros!
